    VERY nice bike for a 10 y/o

I decided to start my daughter off correctly (for the real world) and get her a mountain bike style bike. (It having hand brakes and 6 speed shifter) It is her first bike. I figure if she gets good at this, it won’t be difficult to train her AWAY from the styles that peddle backwards for brakes. Well, it worked fantastic! She never fell once and only hit the wrong brake ONCE. I simply detuned the front brake 30-40% less effective and that bike still stops on a dime!It is a very well made bike, very sturdy, and was a snap to put together. I’m also very happy about the derailed guard. It has some significant wear in 3 months, but derailed looks like new.I would urge any mom/dad to buy this bike. I would, however, suggest they get some flashing LED lights and put them on. The kid will love them and you get some peace of mind your are making poopkins way easier to see!

    Decent bike. Assembly nightmare.

Had to take the bike to a bike shop for assembly. What a joke! It was in a million pieces. No normal person could possibly put this bike together without a professional. The bike shop had no problem assembling the bike. I also felt better knowing it was assembled correctly for safety reasons. Not real high-end but good enough for me. I give it a four overall because of the look and feel. Assembly is definitely one star.Dick’s Sporting Goods has a bike repair shop. Cost only $40 for professional assembly. Worth it for safety reasons!

    Not a good bike.

May 2020: My 10 year old (4’10, 80 lbs) had outgrown and worn out her 3 yr old 20″ bike. I was torn between getting a 24″ or 26″, decided on this 24″ bike. Assembling it wasn’t very difficult (there is an easy-to-follow how-to video showing step by step how to put the bike together….the video is about 18 minutes long, it took me about an hour, but that was re-watcing a few things and having to re-do a couple things to get it right). It’s a great fit for my daughter even with the seat all the way down, so plenty of room for her to grow on this bike…even my 5’7″, 230 frame could comfortably ride this bike.Edit: July 2021 (just over one calendar year—bike was NOT USED for probably about half that time due to weather, the bike needing repair or my daughter being grounded and not allowed to ride)Just over a year later, this bike is heading to the trash because I’m tried of speeding enough on upkeep that all together could buy a GOOD bike. After the initial assembly, the handlebars kept coming loose every time my daughter rode. I’d tighten them and they’d come loose again 10 minutes later. I accused my daughter of getting into my tools & messing with it because I’d get it as tight as I could and they’d still come loose as soon as she began riding. I finally fixed that problem with a new bolt. The gears have never really shifted right, but for a 10 – 11 year old riding mostly flat terrain, that wasn’t a big concern of mine.I never could keep the rear derailleur guard on, finally took it off completely. Not a big issue s as it wouldn’t affect the bike operation, just have to be careful about loading it in a car or it falling over on its side. The brakes were questionable, but as my daughter wouldn’t be stopping / slowing going down steep grades I wasn’t too worried about it, adjusted them the best I could and they were acceptable for flat terrain riding. Now the front derailleur is broken making the bike UN-RIDEABLE.Roughly 7 months of use, LOTS of repairs & upkeep and the bike is no longer going to be having me sink money into one thing just to have something else break.

    Worth the money

After riding this to work all week I’ve noticed it’s got some rough moments but is worth the money all and all. The seat is uncomfortable so I would recommend getting a new, comfy one. Assembling it took almost all day for me, even with instructions.

    better than what you expect

I usually don’t give 5 stars but this product deserve it. I must say that I only went out a couple of times in trails that are not demanding so my rating may be premature but all components are working well and I have a good feeling about quality. I am using mountain bike since when they first came out 30 years ago, I felt I didn’t need disc brake because, unless you buy quality you only open the door to trouble and maintenance. This is a technology that you don’t need unless you run competitive races. You don’t need back suspension unless you do jumps or downhill specialties. The back suspension absorb your kinetic energy when you push in the pedals. This is the best bike for your money if you start or for occasional demanding rides.

Fine bike but came with a faulty tube and service refused to replace it

Bought this bike for my wife’s birthday. The front inner tube was faulty and would not hold air. I assumed it would be no issue to have it replaced by Huffy but, after many back and forth emails with their Service Dept, I was told quite rudely that they wouldn’t replace it. They told me it could get damaged “even on the first ride” and so therefore they were off the hook. For a part that probably costs them less than a buck, I was appalled by how rude they were. So, in short – bike was fine, company was rude

    Strong recommendation

It was quite easy to assemble. I replaced the seat with a more comfortable one, but the original seat may work well too. Easy to ride and a joy to have

    My Daughter LOVES It

This was an excellent purchase. The more difficult parts of the bike were already put together, leaving the final parts pretty simple to complete. So far it has been very sturdy and there haven’t been any major issues. The only minor problem I’m having is the seat twists side-to-side, but it could be a result of something that I haven’t tightened. One bonus feature that you can’t see in the picture is there are little glitter sparkles in the paint that shine when in the sunlight. My little girl saw that and was ecstatic.

  10. Troy Papaji

Easy assembly decent bike with stand, gears etc

20min to watch assembly video and 20min to assemble. I would give credit to preassembly and packaging staff for everything to fit as expected.

    Brakes are too short

EDIT 10/22 The seat broke. It keeps tilting back when I sit on it. I literally cannot tighten the nuts anymore. The seat is going to have to be replaced. Really pisses me off. This is a pretty good bike. I got this bike after spending years riding my mon’s old Giant(which costs about $500 in today’s money), and while it doesn’t quite measure up to that one, it still feels pretty comfortable. It rides smoothly, and the gears are noticeably different from each other. I switch gears a lot when going against the wind or going up or down hill, so it was important the gears worked well.I brought it to a bike shop to put together instead of doing it myself to avoid any problems from poor assembly. Early on I had an issue with the right brake sticking, and I took it to the bike shop that put it together but it unstuck at that point and the bike shop couldn’t see any problem. The brake hasn’t stuck since, so it could just be that the bike needed breaking in.A bigger issue with the brakes is that they’re simply too short. I can’t comfortably rest my fingers on them when I’m riding (which you should always do to be safe). I can only really get one finger on them. The brakes are only half the size of the handle, and the inner part of the handle is taken up by the gear mechanism, so I can’t put my hands any closer to the brakes without accidently changing the gears. Seeing as this is a women’s bike, and women have smaller hands then men, this is strange. It’s a minor issue though.Overall I’m really happy with this bike, especially considering I didn’t have much of a choice since it seems there’s a bike shortage because of the pandemic.

Be Ready To Pick Up Your Package @ The Post Office

I am not really sure what all the negative reviews are about but it did make me skeptical when buying this bike originally.I normally check photos and reviews when buying online! However, huffy is generally a good brand from what I know about bikes anyway…I have never put together a bike before but it seemed pretty straight forward without the manual, I just don’t care to read a manual. All in all,I was able to put the bike together within 1 hours time, again without reading the manual or having prior knowledge about how to assemble a bike! So, not bad for a first timer and it didn’t fall apart on my ride with it (on/off road)! When, I first took this bike for a ride immediately started playing with the gears to figure out what level I wanted the gears set at.For some reason, the tires that came with the bike seamed really comfy when riding it, compared to others I have ridden recently. (They wear hard as rocks)Also, the bike seat was rather uncomfortable but that’s a given with most bikes, I have a way more enjoyable huffy Seat downstairs… so, I’ll just swap them! (No big deal).I love this bike and it’s easy to adjust to!The only thing I don’t like about this transaction was that the post office (USPS) refused to deliver it because the packaging was to big and it was superrr frustrating!!!So, they need to maybe have UPS or somebody else ship the item instead to resolve this issue! If the shipping issue was fixed, I’d gladly give five stars but I’m rating this overall a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    What he wanted

Son asked for Christmas for a blue huffy mountain bike. Very hard to find the smaller size mountain bikes and huffy only had like 1 that size, with all the reviews, was worried it wouldn’t be as expected. So far, so good. Loves it! Been riding it since Christmas. Hope it lasts!

good bike but speed turning switch has issue

the bike itself, the product is good, frame is strong enough for kid who younger than 13. pretty easy to assemble also. However the speed turning switch has issue, the actual gear is not on the right position of the turning switch. For example if you want to shift the speed, while the chain engaging with gear he indicator used to point in the middle of the speed marks. And speed 1 and speed 6 are very difficult to shift.

Assembly is easy for most part but my bike came with wrong original assembly

My bike came with already assembled front handles but they were put in wrong position. It took me a while to take it apart and reassemble it. Also, my kid had issue with the back break, I took it to a bike shop to fix it. Overall it’s not a poor product for this price.

  17. Frances

    It’s just okay

The assembly wasn’t to hard but I had to YouTube it … the handle is in a rather weird position and my son has a hard time grabbing it correctly. The tires would loose air from time to time and it’s less than 2 months with very minimal riding due to the recent storms. If you can, pay a little more for better quality!

  18. Adam H.

    Assembly Mess

Just opened the box and started looking everything over. The owners manual is a joke. It is a general manual for mountain bikes and not specific to this product and so much of it is not relevant. In the last step of the handlebar installation, it specifies not to begin this step until after the front tire is attached which is 2 pages later in the manual; this is literally a joke.

    Good value

This is a cheap bike. Be prepared to replace parts as you use it more. Most parts are of standard sizing so repairs/replacements are not usually difficult. The chain has a decent amount of play, but that is to be expected for such a low priced bike. The breaks are not great and can’t be adjusted much.

  21. Ashmarn

Just what we wanted with adjustments

My wife wanted a relatively light bike with hand brakes and several speeds for riding on a dirt track near our neighborhood. This was just what she needed. Not as light as the more expensive alloy or composite frames, but light enough. The gears shift by rotating a knob next to the hand grips so hands stay in contact with the handlebars. The bike came with a narrow, racing type seat; she liked the bike a lot better when we switched it for a more comfort seat. As others have noted, the bike came 90% assembled; all I had to do was put on the handlebars, the pedals, the seat and the front wheel. However, we had a problem with the pre-assembly. The brake handles stood straight up in the air rather than to the front so it was necessary to take hands off the handlebars and regrip to brake. The numbers on the gear shifts went underneath so they could not be seen. The gears were so tight my wife could not use half the gears. After I rotated the gear knobs and the brake handles 90 degrees forward, the brakes were safer and easier to use, the numbers for the gears were visible, and the gears shifted more easily. The bike comes with the basic tools required to assemble and adjust as required, but not the hex key allen wrench required to loosen and rotate the gear knobs. I had one that fit, or I could not have corrected the problem. Not sure I would want to pay full price for this bike, but it was a great deal when bought used.

  22. Donald A. Smith

Runs well, soild, but the handlebar keeps slipping and I have to re-tighten it.

I use it just around town, for shopping and a little exercise. It is solid and hasn’t had troubles (unlike some previous bikes I’ve owned). The only problem is that the handlebar repeatedly slipping, and I have to tighten the nut.

    The Handlebar is very loose

No matter how tight I assemble the handlebar, it always comes loose mid-ride and needs to be tightened after every other ride. The assembly was pretty straightforward, but I wouldn’t recommend building it yourself if you have no idea about bikes or building things in general.

    Not for an adult

I had trouble deciding how many stars to give this bicycle. I bought it for my 25 year old daughter for Christmas. She is about 5’5″ tall. The bike seems like fine quality and for the right size person, I’m sure they would be delighted. However, it is far too small for even relatively small adults. It would be best for a school age child up to about 10 years old or so.When my daughter rode it she immediately said it was way too small, her knees almost hit the handlebars while peddaling and the riding position was cramped.Put simply, this is a fine bike for a child and I would recommend it. Just not for adults.

Don’t buy unless you are good at bike maintenance

If you are not very good at working with bikes you probably don’t want to purchase this one.The bike assembly out of the box wasn’t terrible but it took about 1 hour or so.The frustrating part is the fact that the other parts of the bike that was supposed to be assembled at the factory also had to be fixed. The rear wheel was badly out of true. The brakes were rubbing and had to be adjusted. The shifter was not running that smoothly, bolts that were supposed to be assembled at the factory were not tight. It took me 2-3 hours to fix all the problems that should have been fixed at the factory. It is shameful to ship a bike in such bad condition. What if this one came to someone that doesn’t know how to fix their own bike? After hours of repair, I ended up returning the bike anyway. I bought it for my somewhat petit 6 year old girl. She was tall enough to ride it but there were other issues.Even after adjusting the brakes they were just to hard to reach for her little hands. The biggest problem of all… She simply could not shift gears. She could shift it up but not back down. The shifter was pretty hard to turn and she simply did not have enough grip strength. It was pretty hard. There are probably some adult women who couldn’t do it either. It’s hilly here and we needed working gears, so we sent it back.

    Nice bike for the price

It came mostly assembled except for the handlebars, seat, peddles, and front tire. I’m 6′ and it didn’t feel like I was able to get good extension with my legs without raising the seat a lot. Adding a layback seat post helped provide a couple more inches of leg room. The noodle on the front brake broke when making initial adjustments and needed to be replaced. Overall it seems like a good bike in this price range. I’ll provide any updates if needed once I get a few miles on it, after it cools down and the temps are no longer getting into the 100’s.

Remember when Huffy was considered trash?

Well, I guess some things never change. What a disaster this whole bike has been from day one. I have to explain how Santa accepts returns now 🤦‍♂️. Got the first box with a massive hole cranked in the side (Thanks, UPS!). That’s OK, bike appeared to be ok. But as I started to assemble I noticed that the chain had slipped off the main sprocket and was wedged in the little tiny space between the frame and the pedal. It was not going to come out without a chain-breaker or some professional help (which would add cost). I spent almost an hour trying to get it out and got several cuts. I at least got the bike together enough that I was able to put it out for Santa (Knowing that I’d have to secretly replace it).I get the replacement. Huge hole cranked in the side again (Thanks, UPS!). Pulled bike out and immediately checked the chain. Same thing. Chain is slipped off and jammed in the crack. By the way, I understand bikes enough to be dangerous. I’ve ridden for years and understand how to get chains on and off with derailleurs to change tubes. But the front derailleurs won’t even move. I think they both have some sort of impact damage. I’m going to a bike shop and getting a nice bike after I return these two heaps.

    Huffy Mountain Bike 6 speed

Purchased this 6 speed 20″ Huffy Mountain Bike for my grandson for his birthday. Assembly was not hard with an instruction booklet that came with the bike. Tools I used was two crescent wrenches, flat and Phillip screwdrivers and a large plier. The plier was used to aligned the front brake caliper that was welded offlined. I gave the bike four stars for this reason. It is a solidly made bike with Shimano shifters. Happy that it was shipped by amazon to his doorstep.

The worst directions I have ever seen in my entire life.BEWARE… the directions are in no order and not specific to the bike. Each item explains that this may not apply to the bike YOU ordered but in case it does… and lists some odd direction. The list of parts are labeled by number on one page yet by letter when the directions begin. There are also directions that explain to do something with one part before that part was even constructed!Yikes! At this point I’m worried the bike will fall apart because letter A wasn’t put with number x and letter 12!

    Good Value/Decent Bike

The bike is a budget buy, but it’s a good value. Everything seems pretty solid as of now.

    A bit tricky to assemble.

Great value. Granddaughter’s birthday gift. She was thrilled. Really loved the color.

First time bike purchase online experience

I gave this bike 4-star base on it’s price and quality. It could be 2 stars if that’s a 300+ price but a bike for just 160 I don’t have much to complain. It’s perfect for my situation as a beginner to enjoy parks and easy bike trail in CA. Things I like about this bike: it’s light weight although it’s steel frame, all parts in good shape, come with tools to assemble, paint looks good, and easy to work on, 21 gear to select, And good price. Overall it’s really nice to buy for a beginner trail biker, but you should avoid using it for some serious hard trail biking or downhill, that’s not what it made for. Things I don’t like: one of the sticker is a little peel off; seat is not comfort after just 10mins riding, I’ll probably switch it to a better one; The third major gear takes longer than the first two gear to hook on; after suspension reach the bottom point, seems like it stays there and won’t release itself back( for this I’m not sure if that’s how it works so I’ll leave a question mark). Bike isn’t that hard to assemble cuz major parts were ready, it’s my first time to put a bike together and I follow every steps on YouTube, only thing that vedio missing is to put the chain on. But you do need to adjust both front& back brakes.

    Nothing but problems!

I bought this bike for my daughter for Christmas. She has barely gotten to ride it since then because it’s been problem after problem. My husband assembled it. He is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to tools and putting things together so I don’t believe it’s an assembly issue. The bolts for the steering bar constantly loosens and it spins forwards or backwards. The bolts that hold the seat won’t get tight enough and the seat constantly drops on her while she tries to ride. The front brakes hold the bike tire too snug even when the brakes aren’t being engaged so sometimes she’ll be riding and the brakes will lock up her front wheel. I waited to write a review because we’ve tried to adjust it several times hoping it would work and nothing has fixed it. I’m super disappointed because the bike was her “big” Christmas present and she has barely been able to use it because it keeps malfunctioning.

Shame on Amazon for labeling this “Amazons Choice”

I really hate writing a bad review, I have a business and I understand when idiots want to rant about nonsense to get money back. That’s not why I am here.I am here because I just want to save others from going through what I went through. I almost always read reviews before I buy, but I didn’t on this one because I trusted the “Amazon’s Choice” label that’s put next to the rating. I figured I can’t go wrong.I don’t know pricing on bikes, and I take responsibility for that, if I knew that the price would lead to me saying “you get what you pay for” I would have bought a nicer bike, which, I’m going to have to end up doing now anyway. This bike is junk, it might as well be sitting in a dump somewhere. It’s garbage.I’ve ridden it maybe 4 times. Every single time I ride it (I’ve been trying to ride for about an hour to get a decent work out), every time I ride this bike the handle bar comes loose. The first time it came so loose it was just flopping around and almost falling off, I couldn’t believe it. I thought maybe I didn’t tighten it enough. So each time now before I ride, I have to tighten it as much as possible and every single time by the end of the hour it’s coming loose. Now on my last ride yesterday, not only was the handlebar coming loose, the left pedal is falling off. Keep in mind I’m not doing bike stunts or tricks, I’m not mountain biking on crazy trails. I am riding my bike around boston on flat easy to ride bike trails that aren’t strenuous. I am a novice rider who is barely even pushing the limits of the bike yet this piece of trash is falling apart right from under me as I ride it gently around bike trails in the city. It’s kind of a joke.Don’t waste your money, seriously. Spend a little more and get a real bike. Now I will have to do the same and just eat the loss because the return policy doesn’t let me return it anymore and I haven’t even had it a month.Enjoy the money you robbed me of, huffy, you’ll never get another dollar from me ever again.

Great bike. Easy to set up. Seat was the only issue. Almost impossible to put it together tightly.

For my son’s 9th birthday. First speed bike and is flying to and from school. Easy 30 min set up. Almost impossible to get seat tightly in place so it won’t move going over a big bump.

    Pain in the arse literally

The instruction booklet is not accurate. The seat, which we all know crushes the blood supply to your privates, is extremely difficult to change because they have very securely hex screwed it on and the tool they gave you to unscrew is so thin (to be cheap) it cuts into your hand when trying to unscrew anything with some resistance. After much work I do have a very functional bike however.

    Hard to Assemble and Uncomfortable

Assembly was not easy at all. There was a lot of things I have to apply force onto. Like the handle assembly onto the front part of the bike and the pedal. Biggest problem I had with the bike was the pedal. I follow the instructions on how to assemble the pedal but the pedal hole was already jammed to begin with. I tried to screw the pedal in and it wont go in. I tried screwing it in the opposite way of what the manual stated and still no results. In the end, I had to force it through, and now the its super uncomfortable. I already threw the box away with the manual so I guess I’ll stick to it until it’s worn out. Well, piece of advice is to stick to an expensive bike if you want to ride comfortably. I learned it the hard way.

    She wanted orange–she got orange

My granddaughter was thrilled to get this for Christmas. She specifically asked for an orange and black bike and got exactly what she wanted.

    That dang bike seat…

Assembly: it’s not bad but the wheels were unassembled, getting the front wheel on was hard so I had to remove the front breaks (not that I use em)Make sure the handle bars are on TIGHT TIGHT because it will fall forward. The Seat: Had to buy a new one. The one they gave me was falling off regardless of how tight I was on. Not only that but it is UNCOMFORTABLE.Performance: I’m not a gear bike guy but being able to shift gears and tighten the peddles at my own strength is amazing. She’s handled 25 miles of on of biking so I hope she’ll go more.

    Cara.

El asiento muy pequeño, incómodo.Un poco cara. Las piezas pequeñas se pierden en el transporte. Por lo demás, todo bien.

    Easy to assemble

I bought this for my husband so we can ride together with our sons. It’s easy to assemble but some parts are quite tricky especially the seat. It easily gets tilted so sometimes feel uncomfortable to sit on.

    Cheap Bike = Cheap Quality

Keeping in mind the bike is only $150 out the door, you get what you pay for. The seat is really uncomfortable, it starts hurting the moment you sit on it. The gear changing is rough. it grinds gears a lot and half the time flat out wont shift the front gears. All and all for a cheap bike it’s not terrible, just remember you get what you pay for.
