We tested the BONSEN Paper Shredder by running 12 sheets of 20lb paper through it. It handled the thick bundle OK and was very quiet. Watch the video for our test. We wondered why no lubrication was provided in the box. Read on for our impressions.The Good:– GOOD PAPER SHRED: The shreds are cross-cut about 1/8 x 1. I would take a lot of school children and a very long time to put that puzzle back together.– SAFETY SWITCH: It does not have an inner catch container with front door access. The entire motor has to be removed and then the container dumped. It’s such a large container that should not be required to do all that often.– AUTO START: It senses paper and will start automatically when the paper is inserted. You know it’s turned on because there is a blue halo around the power button.The Bad– NEEDS OIL!!: There is no mention of oiling needed in the manual and also no mention that it is not needed so to be safe I would suspect blade oiling would benefit the longevity. The seller responded to a query that lubrication is recommended once a month, but again bad for them for not stating so in the manual and no lubrication was provided.– NO CONTAINER HANDLES: There are no built-in hand recesses in the container to make lifting easier. There are recessed but for the motor only, not the container which is very annoying.– VAGUE WARRANTY: The manuals says 30 days, the webpage says 1 year…..very confused.– NO PLASTIC SHRED? The manual states no shredding of plastic or metal but the webpage states it will do staples, credit cards and clips. So again, very confusing and conflicting info from the seller. Will the warranty be void if plastic credit cards are used?– ASKED TO USE FEWER SHEETS? The manuals states one should use few than 12 sheets to prolong the life of the shredder. This brings into question the reliability of the shredder and the credibility and honesty of the seller who pitches something much different on the webpage.– EXPENSIVE: A quick survey of other 12 sheet shredders suggest this Bonsen is about 2X the cost of similar products.Conclusion: I thought the omission of the lubrication requirement was a glaring blunder as well as the conflicts between webpage and the manual where manual states no plastic or metal to be used as well as using fewer than 12 sheets to not wear down the shredder.. Since oil is a requirement for the care of the machine why was something so important not mentioned in the manual nor any lubrication provided. 3 stars removed for the vague use and care requirements, and potentially exaggerated marketing on the webpage that deceives buyers. Id compare other models before buying this one.

It’s pretty quiet
I just received this today, and used it for about 8 minutes, shredding stacked up paperwork, and one thing I noticed is it’s pretty quiet, it’s not as loud as the last two shredders I had (one I bought from Costco, can’t remember the brand, but lasted me about 3 years, the second one being an Amazon Basics brand that broke on day one).I’m pretty impressed with how quiet it is, and I even inserted more than the maximum limit of papar to test the auto detect of too much paper, and it automatically reversed to prevent a paper jam; that’s a great feature.I hope it lasts as long, if not more, than the one I had bought from Costco.

Paper shredder
I got the Bonson paper shredder last week and it’s really been really working well, it’s not the fastest as your feeding the paper in but that’s not a big deal. It can handle cutting up credit cards, paper with staples or paper clips and all that annoying junk mail I get everyday. It can hold about 6 gallons or 500 papers.It can shred 12 sheets of paper in 10 seconds!! Super impressive. It can run 6 minutes before it needs a break to avoid overheating. There is a red button that will let you know if it starts to overheat. It’s jam proof also.Pro tip: make sure that you oil the blades often.

This thing shreds quickly and quietly! It’s been a total work horse in my office and can hold an impressive amount of shredded paper! The top comes off the bottom container to dump so there isn’t a lot of wasted space in making room for a slide out container which is nice since my last shredder looked huge but I felt like I was always needing to dump the slide out drawer where we lost a lot of space in the design – this one the receptacle is the entire bottom! Definitely a winner in my house! Can do a stack of about 12-13 pages at once and even shredded my old CC with ease! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Works, but overheats very easily
This paper shredder does what its made to and It shreds. It is very quiet and It shreds fast. I also noticed it only takes 12 sheets and not a thing more. It will stop and notify you via red light and push out. Another feature I like is whenever you remove the top of the shredder it inactivates so you don’t hurt or shred a finger, once you put the piece over the bin and it clicks then it reactivates the shredder.The things I noticed right off the bat that I didn’t like. First off this overheats after 10 mins of use and you can even see smoke coming out of the machine. I don’t know if its a bad thing, but I definitely unplugged it for some time to let it rest. Second make sure you put a bag to collect the paper and don’t overfill cause when you remove it, the bag will rip. Third after shredding multiple items it clogs the bottom of the shredder making it hard for the shredder to properly read the items and doesn’t fully shred right.This shredder works, but it has some flaws. Mine has not yet died and I have used for 2 months plus. I hope I won’t experience what some have 4 months down the line. If you are in need of a small type of shredding job this will work, but if you have a lot look elsewhere.

Works great and is affordable
This cross-cut shredder works very well in a home office environment where you will be shredding a little at a time. It would not work in a large office where shredder requirements are a lot more demanding. I tested it on a box of documents and ran it almost non-stop, shredding from 4 to12 sheets at a time, including staples, for approximately 20 minutes before it stopped. The red light flashed on, indicating that it was overheated. I powered it off and let it sit for a half hour. When I resumed, it was still a little warm, but it ran for 15 minutes before stopping again. After that it would run for just 5 to 10 minutes before shutting down again and requiring another cool down period of 30 minutes. Based on my experience, I would say that you can safely run this shredder for periods of 15 to 20 minutes before allowing it to cool down for an hour or more. If you’re doing a lot of shredding, be sure to monitor the paper level in the bin. Empty it before it reaches the bottom of the shredder.

This is an excellent overall shredder for home use. It comes with a large capacity bin and a detachable shredder top. It performs exceptionally well and is made from quality components.Typically with machines that have this type of capacity (12 sheets) I cut down the amount of paper I am shredding in half, especially if it has a 6 minute continuous runtime. This is not a shredder made for heavy duty office use, but makes for a nice, sleek & professional looking, light duty shredder. Perfect for the myriad amount of spam mail or confidential docs that need to be shredded.Perfect, light duty shredder.

Works okay but conflicts between manual and product listing are confusing
This BONSEN Shredder works okay as far as shredders go, but it does leave something to be desired. It cross cuts the paper, which is great. It has a large can, and it’s relatively quiet as far as shredders go. It will shred 12 sheets, but it doesn’t sound happy about it. It makes a louder noise with 12 sheets than with 6 or 8 sheets. The listing claims that credit cards and staples are okay, but the manual says they’re a no-no. So, which is it? It can’t be both. I did notice that some things in the manual mention prolonging the life of the shredder. Like shredding 12 sheet bundles is harder on the shredder and shredding 6 sheets will prolong the life of the shredder. So, my question is what’s the difference? From always shredding 6 pages to routinely doing 12. The listing also claims this shredder is jam proof. Umm… nope. It is not jam proof. We’ve managed it a few times. In comparison to similar shredders, this one is a bit pricey as well. What it comes down to is the seller really needs to fix conflictions between the manual and listing because it feels misleading to me. And unless this shredder can live up to all the claims, it’s still going to be on the expensive side in my opinion.

I bought this model because I was tired of the lower cost models getting jammed or the motor burning out, and this had good reviews, at a moderate price, and was a crosscut shredder. It is much quieter than the models I’ve used in the past, could almost listen to the tv or radio while shredding. Purchased this for home use, shredding personal/private information. I should note that I tend to shred like once a year (clean out my files and shred). So I do alot at once. The 12 page max worked well but occasionally it would overload (even with 12 sheets, pretty sure the thickness of the paper is a factor). The Reverse function worked to free the overload with a little tugging and then I could reduce the stack and restart. Every 30 minutes or so, it would overheat and I would take a break. I could restart about 30 minutes later. My biggest complaint is that the shredding blades do not clear the shredded paper fully, see the picture and video clip (even if I use the forward button before lifting the shredder from the basket), so it is a very messy process when the basket is full. Shreds everywhere! The shredder top is also quite heavy which makes emptying not easy. I would try to lift and tip the top as shown in the picture so I could pull out the compacted but dangling shreds into the bin before emptying the bin. There really is no good way to not make a mess, and its impossible to fully clear the blades as the video shows. We will see how long this model lasts but I’m thinking not long given how compacted the shreds in the underside of the blades becomes. The manual recommends oiling the unit monthly but has no information on how to do that. And other than a damp rag to clean the shredding dust, there isn’t much else for maintenance recommendations. So no idea how to clear the blades of shreds.

After buying a series of cheap shredders we opted for this one on-sale after the local FCU quit holding free Shred Days. It’s very quiet, neat and you can easily see how much room is left in the catch basin. It is a bit slow to start up and the only light is a bit faint, but we’d still recommend it.

Does not work good with 8 pieces of paper. It’s slow, starts to bunch up which caused paper clogs that I had to dig out. Also it shredded in strips and not small pieces when I used 8 pieces. One Sheet at a Time
This is suitable only for very light work–it has trouble taking two sheets of paper and needs to cool down after about a dozen sheets. Seriously–a waste of money if you have any quantity of shredding to do. If you want something to shred your utility bill and a bank statement once a month, it might be enough for your needs. For anything else–forget it. I’m returning it ASAP.

We have been going through our old documents and trying to get rid of all of the old papers that we can. So many papers get stored up over the years and they are starting to fill up our storage cabinet. Our old shredder died so we were in search of a new one to replace it. After looking around we got this one and we absolutely love it! This shredder will shred up to 12 sheets of paper at a time and will even do credit cards and staples! I have put so many things in this to shred them and it hasn’t rejected one! It doesn’t even batt an eye when you put 12 sheets of paper in it! I wouldn’t put any paper clips through though because they could decrease the life span of the shredder. We have been using this a lot and it just keeps on chugging and shredding all of our old papers.The bin is nice and large to hold all of the paper shreds so it is very easy to shred papers for a long time and not have too empty it. We are very happy with this shredder and it has worked great for us!

It’s handy but messy
This shredder can hold a lot more than I anticipated. The blades are sharp and I don’t have any problem with the shredding part. I would warn that when you try to dump out the shredded paper from the bin, it could get messy. Some pieces that are stuck to the blades would fall out onto the floor. There are button to turn the blade forward and backward. I would suggest to use those functions to loosen up those paper a bit, and then manually pull them out to clear out the blade area.

This brings into question the reliability of the shredder and the credibility and honesty of the seller who pitches something much different on the webpage.– EXPENSIVE: A quick survey of other 12 sheet shredders suggest this Bonsen is about 2X the cost of similar products.Conclusion: I thought the omission of the lubrication requirement was a glaring blunder as well as the conflicts between webpage and the manual where manual states no plastic or metal to be used as well as using fewer than 12 sheets to not wear down the shredder.. Since oil is a requirement for the care of the machine why was something so important not mentioned in the manual nor any lubrication provided. 3 stars removed for the vague use and care requirements, and potentially exaggerated marketing on the webpage that deceives buyers. Id compare other models before buying this one.

I just received this today, and used it for about 8 minutes, shredding stacked up paperwork, and one thing I noticed is it’s pretty quiet, it’s not as loud as the last two shredders I had (one I bought from Costco, can’t remember the brand, but lasted me about 3 years, the second one being an Amazon Basics brand that broke on day one).I’m pretty impressed with how quiet it is, and I even inserted more than the maximum limit of papar to test the auto detect of too much paper, and it automatically reversed to prevent a paper jam; that’s a great feature.I hope it lasts as long, if not more, than the one I had bought from Costco.

I got the Bonson paper shredder last week and it’s really been really working well, it’s not the fastest as your feeding the paper in but that’s not a big deal. It can handle cutting up credit cards, paper with staples or paper clips and all that annoying junk mail I get everyday. It can hold about 6 gallons or 500 papers.It can shred 12 sheets of paper in 10 seconds!! Super impressive. It can run 6 minutes before it needs a break to avoid overheating. There is a red button that will let you know if it starts to overheat. It’s jam proof also.Pro tip: make sure that you oil the blades often.

This thing shreds quickly and quietly! It’s been a total work horse in my office and can hold an impressive amount of shredded paper! The top comes off the bottom container to dump so there isn’t a lot of wasted space in making room for a slide out container which is nice since my last shredder looked huge but I felt like I was always needing to dump the slide out drawer where we lost a lot of space in the design – this one the receptacle is the entire bottom! Definitely a winner in my house! Can do a stack of about 12-13 pages at once and even shredded my old CC with ease! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Works, but overheats very easily
This paper shredder does what its made to and It shreds. It is very quiet and It shreds fast. I also noticed it only takes 12 sheets and not a thing more. It will stop and notify you via red light and push out. Another feature I like is whenever you remove the top of the shredder it inactivates so you don’t hurt or shred a finger, once you put the piece over the bin and it clicks then it reactivates the shredder.The things I noticed right off the bat that I didn’t like. First off this overheats after 10 mins of use and you can even see smoke coming out of the machine. I don’t know if its a bad thing, but I definitely unplugged it for some time to let it rest. Second make sure you put a bag to collect the paper and don’t overfill cause when you remove it, the bag will rip. Third after shredding multiple items it clogs the bottom of the shredder making it hard for the shredder to properly read the items and doesn’t fully shred right.This shredder works, but it has some flaws. Mine has not yet died and I have used for 2 months plus. I hope I won’t experience what some have 4 months down the line. If you are in need of a small type of shredding job this will work, but if you have a lot look elsewhere.

Works great and is affordable
This cross-cut shredder works very well in a home office environment where you will be shredding a little at a time. It would not work in a large office where shredder requirements are a lot more demanding. I tested it on a box of documents and ran it almost non-stop, shredding from 4 to12 sheets at a time, including staples, for approximately 20 minutes before it stopped. The red light flashed on, indicating that it was overheated. I powered it off and let it sit for a half hour. When I resumed, it was still a little warm, but it ran for 15 minutes before stopping again. After that it would run for just 5 to 10 minutes before shutting down again and requiring another cool down period of 30 minutes. Based on my experience, I would say that you can safely run this shredder for periods of 15 to 20 minutes before allowing it to cool down for an hour or more. If you’re doing a lot of shredding, be sure to monitor the paper level in the bin. Empty it before it reaches the bottom of the shredder.

This is an excellent overall shredder for home use. It comes with a large capacity bin and a detachable shredder top. It performs exceptionally well and is made from quality components.Typically with machines that have this type of capacity (12 sheets) I cut down the amount of paper I am shredding in half, especially if it has a 6 minute continuous runtime. This is not a shredder made for heavy duty office use, but makes for a nice, sleek & professional looking, light duty shredder. Perfect for the myriad amount of spam mail or confidential docs that need to be shredded.Perfect, light duty shredder.

This BONSEN Shredder works okay as far as shredders go, but it does leave something to be desired. It cross cuts the paper, which is great. It has a large can, and it’s relatively quiet as far as shredders go. It will shred 12 sheets, but it doesn’t sound happy about it. It makes a louder noise with 12 sheets than with 6 or 8 sheets. The listing claims that credit cards and staples are okay, but the manual says they’re a no-no. So, which is it? It can’t be both. I did notice that some things in the manual mention prolonging the life of the shredder. Like shredding 12 sheet bundles is harder on the shredder and shredding 6 sheets will prolong the life of the shredder. So, my question is what’s the difference? From always shredding 6 pages to routinely doing 12. The listing also claims this shredder is jam proof. Umm… nope. It is not jam proof. We’ve managed it a few times. In comparison to similar shredders, this one is a bit pricey as well. What it comes down to is the seller really needs to fix conflictions between the manual and listing because it feels misleading to me. And unless this shredder can live up to all the claims, it’s still going to be on the expensive side in my opinion.

Shredder unit is very heavy and when sitting on top of the container that is furnished the whole unit is top heavy and will fall over very easily.The container furnished is too small and lacks capacity.I would not by this unit again.

I bought this model because I was tired of the lower cost models getting jammed or the motor burning out, and this had good reviews, at a moderate price, and was a crosscut shredder. It is much quieter than the models I’ve used in the past, could almost listen to the tv or radio while shredding. Purchased this for home use, shredding personal/private information. I should note that I tend to shred like once a year (clean out my files and shred). So I do alot at once. The 12 page max worked well but occasionally it would overload (even with 12 sheets, pretty sure the thickness of the paper is a factor). The Reverse function worked to free the overload with a little tugging and then I could reduce the stack and restart. Every 30 minutes or so, it would overheat and I would take a break. I could restart about 30 minutes later. My biggest complaint is that the shredding blades do not clear the shredded paper fully, see the picture and video clip (even if I use the forward button before lifting the shredder from the basket), so it is a very messy process when the basket is full. Shreds everywhere! The shredder top is also quite heavy which makes emptying not easy. I would try to lift and tip the top as shown in the picture so I could pull out the compacted but dangling shreds into the bin before emptying the bin. There really is no good way to not make a mess, and its impossible to fully clear the blades as the video shows. We will see how long this model lasts but I’m thinking not long given how compacted the shreds in the underside of the blades becomes. The manual recommends oiling the unit monthly but has no information on how to do that. And other than a damp rag to clean the shredding dust, there isn’t much else for maintenance recommendations. So no idea how to clear the blades of shreds.

After buying a series of cheap shredders we opted for this one on-sale after the local FCU quit holding free Shred Days. It’s very quiet, neat and you can easily see how much room is left in the catch basin. It is a bit slow to start up and the only light is a bit faint, but we’d still recommend it.

Does not work good with 8 pieces of paper. It’s slow, starts to bunch up which caused paper clogs that I had to dig out. Also it shredded in strips and not small pieces when I used 8 pieces. With 2 pieces it shredded fine. The motor is whisper quite and I ordered the white which looks more modern than the black.

One Sheet at a Time
This is suitable only for very light work–it has trouble taking two sheets of paper and needs to cool down after about a dozen sheets. Seriously–a waste of money if you have any quantity of shredding to do. If you want something to shred your utility bill and a bank statement once a month, it might be enough for your needs. For anything else–forget it. I’m returning it ASAP.

We have been going through our old documents and trying to get rid of all of the old papers that we can. So many papers get stored up over the years and they are starting to fill up our storage cabinet. Our old shredder died so we were in search of a new one to replace it. After looking around we got this one and we absolutely love it! This shredder will shred up to 12 sheets of paper at a time and will even do credit cards and staples! I have put so many things in this to shred them and it hasn’t rejected one! It doesn’t even batt an eye when you put 12 sheets of paper in it! I wouldn’t put any paper clips through though because they could decrease the life span of the shredder. We have been using this a lot and it just keeps on chugging and shredding all of our old papers.The bin is nice and large to hold all of the paper shreds so it is very easy to shred papers for a long time and not have too empty it. We are very happy with this shredder and it has worked great for us!

It’s handy but messy
This shredder can hold a lot more than I anticipated. The blades are sharp and I don’t have any problem with the shredding part. I would warn that when you try to dump out the shredded paper from the bin, it could get messy. Some pieces that are stuck to the blades would fall out onto the floor. There are button to turn the blade forward and backward. I would suggest to use those functions to loosen up those paper a bit, and then manually pull them out to clear out the blade area.

The shredder was never opened because I realized it was crosscut and I wanted a micro cut to replace the wonderful micro cut that just stop working. It appears replacement micro cut shredders, aren’t easy to find.
